Holy moley what a find!!!! I spent the day Sunday driving around Rhode Island exploring anyplace I suspected may have tools and I totally lucked out!! The number 6 is a conspicuous gap in my collection of antique Stanley hand planes. Too big to smooth, and too small to joint boards: It’s is a size that I never use. These aluminum planes are insanely light but unpopular because the metal is really soft so they damage easily and mark up wood. Aluminum during the 1920s was still fairly experimental and the metallurgy wasn’t really fully there yet, so the aluminum planes were far more expensive than the typical cast iron. Therefore there aren’t too many of these around and they can be pretty rare. I figured if I have a plane that I’m never really gonna use, why not make it a weirdo rare one?
