We are in year 4 of living in the south, in Lake Wylie SC, just outside of Charlotte, and our property came with a very old and thick muscadine. It has been a bit of a struggle to figure out how to bring this back to be manageable and give some fruit. 4 years ago I pruned it too aggressively, and the subsequent years I did less of that but also cut back some of it and the old trellis that was falling apart under it. This year I pruned it again, just now, towards the end of winter. We shall see how we'll it does this year. I got the first real fruit last year, but not a very large ammount.
Pruning the main one

Before pruning, lots of long shoots and overlapping branches.

After pruning...
Truth be told, I am not sure I know what I'm doing, sort of learning as I go and learning from my mistakes...
Pruning the little one
This little one, I believe came out on ti's own as an off shoot from the main one. This little one has been neglected for many years alo, but I feel like I might have a better chance at getting it to grow correctly. So I pruned it and did my best to spread out the twisted shoots off the main cordons.

Green new growth

Too much green? Time will tell.

The little frutting buds are here...
Did my best to leave 3 or 4 knots on every sprout.
