The only way to get the bees away and somewhat control where they are and where you need them to go as a beekeeper, is using smoke. It is not at all a perfect science but it is the best we got.
After reversing the boxes on these hives the bees were hanging all over. A bit of smoke and they mostly got back to where I needed them to be.
