For Sugar Baby watermelons, I look for 3 signs together: 1. The nearest tendril is completely brown and dry. 2. The underside field spot (where it rests on the ground) is creamy yellow, not white. 3. The rind loses its shine and becomes more dull. This one probably needs about another week or two.

I did not expect that the watermelon and cantaloupe plants would grow so long and they would bust out of the raised garden beds. They seem to be doing great.
